Museum masterpiece reproduction "Ladies in Blue" by the Minoan civilisation, ca 1500 BC
The Minoan civilization was a Bronze Age Aegean civilisation on the island of Crete and other Aegean Islands, flourishing from c. 3000 BC to c. 1450 BC and, after a late period of decline, finally ending around 1100 BC. It represents the first advanced civilisation in Europe, leaving behind massive building complexes, tools, writing systems, and a massive collection of artworks in the form of frescos and murals.
Minoan Fresco of the Ladies in Blue were uncovered in the west wing of the Palace of Knossos and depicts the women in open blouses that was typical in the later Minoan Culture. Their skirts would have begun at the waist, were flounced, and of many colorful patterns. The ladies with the graceful posture of their arms are depicted while conversating with each other, perhaps during a court festival or a prestigious social or religious ceremony. The women in the fresco belong to the upper class of Minoan society. They might be goddesses in the Snake Goddess order or just noble ladies of the court.
